As an academic at heart, Dr. Clancy continues to carry out research and publish papers.
Most recently in this study, she and her colleagues evaluated the effectiveness of a faith‑based substance use education program (AIP) for adolescents at risk of legal involvement due to first-time drug or alcohol arrests. The evaluation included 2,437 participants and reported an impressive 98 % program completion rate.
2% of participants returned to the program for a second time, and around 5% were referred back to the court system, which represented a very low recidivism rate.
The authors conclude that faith‑based intervention programs like this AIP can serve as effective alternatives to incarceration, offering substance abuse prevention and support for at‑risk adolescents.
